A programme idea- "The Hive Mind"

Writer's picture: Rosie Ashley-EastRosie Ashley-East

Recently, my parents and I have been looking into getting a beehive for the garden to improve local bee populations and help #savethebees .

Would a programme about beekeeping and research into bee populations be interesting to viewers?

Whilst studying at the University of Sussex, I was lectured by leading ecology researchers at the forefront of their field looking into the health of bee populations and the interactions between insects.

There are several community organisations working to improve insect populations and look after bees, such as the 'Sussex Roots' group and 'Rewilding Sussex'

Sussex roots is a communal gardening group run by the University of Sussex, encouraging students and local residents to plant insect friendly species and cultivate a diverse array of flora

- Prof. Francis Ratnieks: a specialist in bee ecology

A character: "i've been stung by bees so many times that I don't feel them anymore"

Has hives and hive cameras in the labs, teaches with a long stick; is quirky and interesting to film

- Prof. Dave Goulson

A friendly researcher and lecturer well-known for his books and peer-reviewed research

Author of the books:

"Bumblebees: their behaviour and ecology"

"The garden jungle"

"Bee Quest"
